Discover Mission Hills

Mission Hills is one of San Diego's oldest and most architecturally distinguished neighborhoods, perched on a mesa just northwest of downtown between the airport, Old Town, and Hillcrest. Developed in the early 1900s as one of the city's first streetcar suburbs, it retains an unmistakable historic character, with tree-canopied streets lined by Craftsman bungalows, Spanish Revival haciendas, and grand early-20th-century estates. Many homes here were designed by notable local architects, and the neighborhood's hilltop position affords some of the best views in the city, overlooking San Diego Bay, Point Loma, and the airport runway.

The pace of life in Mission Hills is noticeably quieter and more residential than in nearby Hillcrest or downtown, giving it a village-like feel despite being just minutes from the urban core. Its small commercial corridor along Washington Street and Goldfinch Street offers a curated selection of boutique shops, cafes, and well-regarded restaurants that cater to locals rather than tourists. The neighborhood also has a strong sense of community identity, with active neighborhood associations, well-maintained parks like Pioneer Park, and a walkable, low-key charm that has made it consistently one of the more desirable and expensive residential areas in central San Diego.
